Calgary is a relatively young city, which from the 1950s on has become a key metropolitan centre and regional powerhouse. Throughout the exponential population growth over the next 60 years, the city’s gay community has existed as a distinct undercurrent. However, not too much is known about it…

 

This is the impetus for the Calgary Gay History Project. I am curious about what life was like for gay people in Calgary in the middle of the last century. This project also has an oral history preservation agenda; I hope to document stories from LGBTQ elders in Calgary whose stories should be recorded before they are lost.
