    About

    Some programs and services have been limited due to CO-VID:

    • Community Health Bus (on pause)
    • Youth Drop-in Centre (We are currently operating on a come-and-go basis, with no hanging out, and no hot meals served (sorry!) COVID screening is in effect. Max 20 people at a time. Our youth workers are available from 10 am – 1 pm M-F for one-on-one visits.)

    The Alex serves a community with complex health needs, often the result of issues such as poverty, trauma, homelessness, or addiction. At The Alex whole health is the goal – and you can’t be healthy if you are hungry, or isolated, or experiencing mental health struggles.

    Navigating a complex system of service providers can be challenging for those who need help the most. This is why we offer an extensive scope of services all under one roof reducing the need for our community members to have to find the time and resources to go elsewhere.

    • COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE: Our Community Health Centre is a full-service health clinic with doctors and nurses who are here to listen to you!  Our Health Centre is here for low-income Calgarians who do not have a regular family doctor.

    There are lots of other services we provide, including:

    • Medical care
    • Social supports
    • Pharmacy services
    • Chiropractor and massage therapy
    • Chronic disease nurses
    • Optometry

    • RAPID ACCESS ADDICTION MEDICINE: We know it’s hard to talk about your substance use, and how it may be causing problems in your life. Did you know that there are medications available that treat opioid and alcohol use disorders? Our walk-in RAAM clinic team is here to help you reduce or stop your substance use. We will support you until you are stable and then connect you to longer-term services. FOR MORE INFO

    • YOUTH HEALTH CENTRE: The Youth Health Centre is a safe and supportive place for youth ages 12-24 to come and get health and social care from a trustworthy and caring team of doctors, nurses, and support workers. The Alex Youth Health

    Centre provides a number of supports and services including:

    • medical care
    • mental health supports
    • STI and pregnancy testing
    • pharmacy services
    • basic needs support
    • LGBTQ2S+ supports
    • parenting programs
    • ID document support

    • Nurturing Parenting - Nurturing Parenting is a virtual group for parents age 24 and under and their children to learn skills to nurture themselves as well as their children.

     

    • Queermunity - A youth-led group for youth aged 12-24 who identify as LGBTQS+ and their allies.

     

    • Matched Savings - Matched Savings is a virtual financial literacy group for young parents age 24 and under.

     

    • Parenting Plus - Virtual parenting class for youth 24 and under who are pregnant or parenting a baby under the age of 1. Open Group and partners welcome!

    • YOUTH HEALTH BUS - Our Youth Health Bus visits 8 CBE High Schools, providing:
    1. Someone to talk to who can answer your questions
    2. Mental health support & general medical care
    3. Pregnancy testing & support
    4. Birth control education, prescriptions & supplies
    5. Sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing & treatment
    6. Referrals to community resources & services

    • YOUTH PRENATAL PROGRAM -  Welcome to The Alex Youth Health Centre Prenatal Program! Pregnancy can be a very exciting, and sometimes difficult time. We’re here to help every step of the way! Please contact us at the Youth Health Centre if you think you might be pregnant, or if you know for sure you are. We can answer questions and help you figure out what to do. FOR MORE INFO

    • DENTAL HEALTH BUS - We provide no-cost drop-in dental care to low-income children and youth ages 6-24. Our bus services include dental screenings, fluoride, education, and referrals. Treatment on the bus is at no cost to you. For referrals to partnering dental office, you will need your Notice of Assessment from your last tax return. FOR MORE INFO

    • SENIORS HEALTH CENTRE - Our Seniors Health Centre serves low-income seniors ages 55+ who don’t have a family doctor. Our patients have complex health and social needs, and our team of warm and caring doctors and nurses provide quality one-on-one care to increase your well being and quality of life.

    • Chronic disease management
    • Smoking cessation
    • Nutrition
    • Pain management
    • Yoga
    • Physiotherapy
    • Massage
    • Foot care
